Why painting is different in Honolulu
Honolulu never gets cold enough to stop painting, but the climate is hard on paint all the same. The sun is strong in every month. Salt air reaches well inland and rusts nail heads, railings and hardware. Trade winds bring quick showers, and the valleys and the windward side are far wetter than the shore. Mildew grows on any shaded, damp surface, inside and out.
The buildings are different too. Many older homes are single-wall construction, where one layer of wood boards is the whole wall and paint is its main protection. Other homes are hollow tile or concrete. A large share of people live in condos with house rules on work hours and elevators. Homes built before 1978 may have lead in the old paint layers, and a federal rule sets how contractors must work on them.
How we work
We walk the job, measure and give you a written quote that covers the prep, the paint and the price. Before painting we cover floors and furniture, wash and treat mildew, patch, sand, caulk and prime. Then two coats go on. Most rooms take one to two days and a full exterior usually takes three to five days, depending on weather. We clean up and finish with a walk-through.
